PMI Syracuse Social Media Policy
These are the guidelines for social media at PMI Syracuse. If you’re a PMI Syracuse member or volunteer creating or contributing to blogs, wikis, social networks, or any other kind of social media both on and off pmi-syracuse.org—these guidelines are for you. We expect all who participate in social media on behalf of PMI Syracuse to be trained, to understand and to follow these guidelines. These guidelines will continually evolve as new technologies and social networking tools emerge. This document should be reviewed at least annually.

When You Engage
Emerging platforms for online collaboration are fundamentally changing the way we work, offering new ways to engage with members, colleagues, and the world at large. It’s a new model for interaction and we believe social computing can help you to build stronger, more successful business relationships. If you participate in social media, please follow these guiding principles:
- Stick to your area of expertise and provide unique, individual perspectives on what’s going on at PMI and in the world.
- Post meaningful, respectful comments—in other words, no spam and no remarks that are off-topic or offensive.
- Always pause and think before posting. That said, reply to comments in a timely manner, when a response is appropriate.
- Respect proprietary information and content, and confidentiality.
- When disagreeing with others’ opinions, keep it appropriate and polite.

Rules of Engagement
Follow the PMI® Branding Standards
PMI® has issued Visual Identity Guidelines (branding). Check with the PMI web site for the latest version. All social Media communications should be consistent with these guidelines and utilize the appropriate fonts, icons, color templates, etc.
Follow the PMI® Code of Conduct
Social Media has transformed how we communicate on a daily basis; computers track more and more data points today than ever before, however, it is the new communication highway. Information shared online goes global almost immediately. For this reason, double-check all of your work prior to sending out any information. Mistakes and/or corrections are difficult to fix and induce risk in the overall organization when introduced. When in doubt or question, refer the PMI® Code of Conduct for guidance. Observe all local law enforcement and participate responsibly.
Social Media Account Ownership
Any and all intellectual property remains the sole ownership of the originating party. With regards to social media accounts, any and all accounts used for conducting business and/or facilitating in the PMI Syracuse Social Media effort, may be considered PMI Syracuse property. (e.g. PMI Syracuse branded accounts) All usernames, email address, passwords, and other relevant accounts will be sealed and maintained by the PMI Syracuse Director of Communications.
Be Responsible
If you are not giving an official PMI Syracuse response, do not respond as PMI Syracuse. Ensure views and shared content are in line with the organization’s strategic objectives. All communications should demand the same professionalism and credibility as does the PMI® brand. Alert the proper office in the event that a discrepancy exists.
