What does Project Governance mean?

According to the PMBOK, project governance is an “oversight function that is aligned with the organization's governance model and encompasses the project life cycle,” How important is the concept of aligned, as contrasted with what many organizations do, duplicate their business governance model with their project governance model.

Business governance is running the business; project governance is changing the business. During this meeting we will discuss some best practices, case studies, and opportunities for you to bring to your department with an eye to having the right person make decisions, at the right time, and in the interest of the project.

What is the role of the PMO in project or business governance?"

Discussion topics for the meeting will be:

  1. Does the PMO just develop policy and procedures?
  2. Does it do the above plus lead, advocate, train, and support PM resources before, during, and after projects?

The meeting will be a facilitated discussion led by:

  • James Stewart
  • Joseph Kelly
  • Rich Fifield

We look forward to seeing you there!
