Emotional Intelligence will be one of the top 10 jobs skill in 2020!

World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a hot topic.  Awareness and recognition that EI is an important job skill, in some cases even surpassing technical ability, has been growing in recent years.

Even back in 2011 – in a Career Builder Survey of more than 2,600 hiring managers and human resource professionals:

  • 71% stated they valued emotional intelligence in an employer over IQ
  • 75% said they were more likely to promote a highly emotionally intelligent worker
  • 59% claimed they would pass up a candidate with a high IQ but low emotional intelligence

So… why are corporations, companies, organizations and people in general putting such a high premium on Emotional Intelligence?  Here are 7 of the top reasons why:

  1.     They can handle pressure healthily
  2.     They Understand and cooperate with others
  3.     They are good listeners
  4.     They are more open to feedback
  5.     They are empathetic
  6.     They set an example for others to follow
  7.     They make more thoughtful and thorough decisions
